Rain marimba

He composed well-known pieces for the marimba such as " Yellow After the Rain " and " Sea Refractions "; it is said that these works were composed because Peters felt that there was a lack of musically interesting material that would introduce his students to four-mallet marimba techniques.

Several of his snare drum and timpani etude books are in common use as well. He later was principal percussionist of the Dallas Symphony before taking the principal percussion position in the Los Angeles Philharmonic in Peters was well known for his prodigious sightreading ability. During his tenure as timpanist, he took the position as professor of percussion at the University of California, Los Angeles.

In MayPeters retired from teaching. Peters was also a member of the Philharmonic New Music Group and recorded a wide array of contemporary works as a chamber musician. Peters held the Performer's Certificate and bachelor's and master's degrees from the Eastman School of Musicwhere he studied with William Street. While at Eastman, he was a member of the original "Marimba Masters. Army Symphony Orchestra. As a widely published author and composer, Peter's works and instructional materials are highly regarded throughout the United States and abroad.

His faculty positions included the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara from —, and UCLA, where he taught percussion and conducted the percussion ensemble. After a year of declining health, Peters died on October 28,at the age of In a newspaper article announcing his death, symphonic conductor James Touchi-Peters —who was also Peters' cousin—was quoted as saying, "It's not an exaggeration to say that Mitch Peters was among the dozen best timpanists in the world.

Musician, composermusic teacher. Timpanipercussion. It's an honor to welcome Ben Clark, a fan of this website and a professional drummer based in London, now writing and touring with Zooni. Though Ben is primarily a drum kit player, he is passionate about percussion of all kinds, particularly the marimba and vibraphone.

Ben has played with some of the finest musicians on the planet, and is now contributing to the myNoise project with one of his favorite instruments. The marimba is a gorgeous instrument that is capable of creating beautifully sonorous combinations of polyrhythms, intertwining together to make something that keeps changing — even more so on myNoise with its unique audio engine that relies on free-running tracks.

Even at startup, the generator plays differently. Have a try by reloading the page; it's subtle, but not for the trained ear. The attentive listener will also notice two synthesizer tracks on this soundscape. I have always been reluctant to mix electronic and acoustic sources, as the charm of one often destroys the charm of the other.

Sonic Wood Craftsmanship

Now, there are some artists that do master such an eclectic blending of acoustic and electronic sounds, and Peter Gabriel is my favorite. I was surprised to find two synth tracks on Ben's contribution and was ready to discard them without further judgement as I believed I am yet to have someone like Peter Gabriel among my fans. However, I then realized that these two tracks were sonic gems, totally making sense sonically in the soundscape.

And this, to me, confirmed the indisputable talent of Ben Clark. Marimbas have a very rich low tone when played in the lower octaves, and this setting brings the low notes to life. There are also high hits that sound a lot like rain dripping off plants after a rainstorm and into a puddle.

I can't NOT be happy while listening to this one. It just makes me bounce. I can't hold still when it's playing! No matter the setting. I write to this all the time now as I work on my novel. And when I need specific music for certain scenes, I can pair this with anything. I like to pair it with Mr. Rhodes, which gives me this really sweet romantic vibe. And puts me in the mood when I'm writing a romantic scene.

It's amazing overall. I thought of Peter Gabriel the second I heard this, and then read the description Great stuff. Sadly, if you put it on the loop, it gets repetitive after a while. Feels like on the same vibe as that Ori's music, but calmer and not distracting.Playing Numbered Notation Version. View all posts by ranchguitar.

Comments: Thank you for having great percussion music available! Yellow After the Rain Comments: Music arrived on time and as promised. One of the staples of early 4 mallet repertoire, Yellow After the Rain by Mitchell Peters is a great choice for percussionists fairly new to 4 mallet marimba. The work is built on a simple melody that is used across different technique sets, including double verticals, single alternating, and single independent strokes.

This is a great piece to really work on these stroke types while playing memorable, fun music. Thanks for your understanding. Official Return Policy. Every single order that goes out the door has a tracking number that will be emailed to you, and all of it is completely insured.

It's starts easy with 3 mallets easy and further on with 4 mallets harder.

You only need a lot of practise The song was great for a friend of mine's audition. It is great piece with lots of style. Very moving song.
